Summer Activities Coordinator

[Seasonal, July 1 - August 15, 2024]

About Us

Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, students’ homes, and their communities.

The Carroll Center welcomes students ages 7 to 21, who are blind or visually impaired with the possibility of additional disabilities, to participate in a variety of summer youth programs that empower them to develop socially, academically, and independently.

Who We Seek

Someone who is interested in introducing students with visual impairments to a broad range of activities. This individual will schedule, plan and oversee all on-campus and off-campus student activities and foster a positive experience for the students. Activities may include: sports, exercise, dance, music, crafts, cooking, trivia and more!

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining attendance and discipline during group activities.
  • Coordinating transportation for recreational activities.
  • Managing weekly field trips and afternoon/evening activities. 
  • Stepping in to be an extra set of hands where needed.
  • Providing transportation for students as needed.
  • Help ensure student medications are administered and taken on time.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Weekly Shifts Include (2 roles available):

  • (1st role available) Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 2pm-8pm and Thursday 8am-4pm
  • (2nd role available) Saturday 9am-4pm

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following areas preferred: physical education, recreational therapy, special education, or counseling. Ideal for teachers looking for summer employment. 
  • Must be 21 or older, 23 or older preferred (in order to provide transportation for students in one of our vans). 
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Experience working with teens and/or individuals with disabilities is a plus.
  • Experience with a variety of recreational activities is preferred.
  • Priority will be given to individuals who can work the entire duration of the summer program.
