Orientation & Mobility for Children

Travel Skills Are Basic Building Blocks for Learning.

Orientation and Mobility (O&M) services are critical for blind and visually impaired children to ensure they can successfully navigate their surroundings and ultimately reach educational milestones. O&M enables children to know exactly where they are and where they want to go (Orientation). The next step is getting to that destination safely, efficiently and effectively (Mobility). As part of individualized O&M lessons for your child, we will pair them with Certified O&M Instructors to deliver skills for safe, independent travel in the home, school, and community.

Individualized Orientation & Mobility Lessons

Safe travel training may take place in the home, in the home neighborhood, in schools, on public transportation, or wherever there are travel concerns. Travel tools might include low vision skills and devices such as special tinted glasses and long, white, or support canes. The length of training will vary depending on each child’s goals and abilities.
