About Us

Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, clients’ homes, and their communities.

WHO WE SEEK

The Carroll Center is looking for a compassionate Resident Assistant who is a leader, can  build positive relationships with and support the clients they serve, and create a safe living environment in which clients have the opportunity to be themselves and grow socially.

Position Summary

The RA is one of leadership and service.  This role supports clients in the dormitories, provides excellent care and a safe environment for the clients as they transition to residential living during their program.  This includes oversight of client evening/weekends activities, maintaining an active and accessible presence in the dormitory to facilitate client engagement, building relationships, checking on well-being, managing physical conditions , serving evening/weekend meals, monitoring all interactions with clients throughout each shift, communicating with families and solving problems or emergencies that may arise. Also, the RA will write brief shift reports, and effectively communicate with staff as needed. The overnight shift includes a meal,  a single room during your shift and time to sleep.

Shifts Available:

Evening and overnight, 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 A.M.

Weekend day shifts, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Qualifications

  • Prospective applicants must be at least 20 years old
  • High School Diploma, some college preferred.
  • Ability to complete First Aid/CPR certification (provided).
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
  • The ability to work 1 to 2 shifts per week that includes a weekend shift, preferred.
