Client Experience and Activities Coordinator

Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, students’ homes, and their communities.

As the Client Experience and Activities Coordinator you will be the key contact for Resident Assistants (RAs) and work closely with the Program Manager, Case Manager, and Health Care Coordinator.  The Coordinator will ensure our clients, who are blind and visually impaired, enjoy a smooth and enriching experience as well as foster a supportive, safe and collaborative environment, guiding and encouraging them throughout their program. Additionally, the Coordinator will organize engaging activities that enhance client interaction, address client questions and concerns and assist with the overall day-to-day operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support new clients ensuring they are fully prepared to begin their program. Serve as the initial point of contact with incoming clients prior to arrival. 
  • Act as the primary liaison between clients and the Rehabilitation team to ensure clear communication, troubleshoot and  address concerns and expedite a timely resolution..
  • Communicate with the Rehab Leadership with relevant information to support the client’s assessment training program or any issues/concerns they may have and expedite a timely resolution.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative environment, working closely with all team members.
  • Advise the Dorm team all relevant information about the client.
  • Welcome clients on their first day and provide a positive experience ensuring they feel comfortable, safe and supported. This includes Dorm and program orientation as well as settling in.
  • Serve as a liaison between the client’s, their families, and the Rehab staff.  
  • Develop, organize and implement activities for the Client’s to keep them engaged,  build social connection and  independence.
  • Inspect dormitories weekly to ensure they are well stocked, clean and in good condition.
  • Coordinate the day to day activities in the dorm spaces which includes but not limited to:  communicate to relevant personnel food and supplies as needed , troubleshoot facility issues and concerns raised by clients and staff, oversee RA coverage, review timesheets, keep Dorm staff trained and up to date, send out important communication as needed, manage dorm room turnover, and coordinate attendance/recordkeeping of clients in programs.  
  • Provide input to Rehab Leadership regarding Dorm staff’s performance evaluations.
  • Train clients on use of basic exercise equipment.
  • Assist with coverage of Rehab classes as needed.
  • Must be able to work independently and part of a team
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be 21 years of age required.
  • 1 year experience planning events or activities required.  
  • Demonstrated ability to engage others and build relationships required.
  • Possess a warm, welcoming and professional demeanor, be detail oriented, excellent communication and customer relation skills, interpersonal, verbal and written communication and attention to detail skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability showcasing initiative and can work independently while collaborating with others required.
  • Proficient working knowledge in Google Suite is required..   
  • Ability to type efficiently and collect data as needed. 
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record with no restrictions required.

Preferred

  • College degree is a plus.
  • Experiential knowledge of working with people with disabilities or knowledge of disabilities is strongly preferred.
