Opportunity to Make an Impact
“Since I started at the Carroll Center in 2017, I’ve had the privilege of being trusted by hundreds of people experiencing vision loss to guide them toward greater independence through technology. More than just a physical change, the transition to blindness is emotional, social, as well as technological, and it impacts every aspect of your life, sometimes in small ways and sometimes enormously. As a person with a visual impairment, working with others experiencing blindness has allowed me to see my blindness through a unique lens that has benefited me personally and professionally. The Carroll Center has afforded me tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to creating impact with the Carroll Center for many years.”
– Nick Corbett, Program Manager of Rehabilitation Services
Close-knit team who become like family
“It’s easy to come into work every day when you are doing something you love. It’s an added bonus when you work with a close-knit team who become like family. Our colleagues all work with a client-focused mindset with the result being independence for the client. I teach visually impaired adults to do their activities of daily living. It is rewarding to see a client accomplish a task they may have been nervous to do post vision loss and see how proud the client is of themselves. Having a job that you absolutely love, with low stress, has had a huge impact on my life. I am so happy I switched career paths and working as a vision rehab therapist has been really fulfilling. The management team care about the clients and the staff wellbeing.”
– Sheila Carney, VRT, Rehabilitation Instructor
Gratifying work
“Helping people who have lost vision to experience a sense of accomplishment and regain their confidence is important and gratifying work… I’ve had a number of different jobs over the long course of my career, but working at the Carroll Center is by far the most impactful and rewarding. I am grateful for the opportunity to make difference in the lives of the clients I work with.”
– Paul Hastings, Sensory Arts Instructor
Boosted my confidence
“My favorite part about here has been the community and everyone that I’ve been able to meet, friendships I’ve been able to make. Overall it’s really boosted my confidence as an employee and my own person.”
– Bailey Harris, Admissions Coordinator
Opened my heart
“Working at the Center has opened my heart, educated me on what is really happening in people’s lives, and taught me the importance of patience, perspective and compassion.”
– Jim Duffy, Technology Skills Instructor & Alumnus
