SUMMER REHAB PROGRAM

Monday, June 29, 2026 through August 13, 2026
*Training begins last 2 weeks of June (in-person and virtual)
Student ages 15-19

Requirements for all Rehab Roles:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Some college education and work experience in human services preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and oral/written communication skills required
  • Commitment to full duration of program (6/29-8/13)
  • Able to walk outside in summer weather
  • First Aid and CPR certifications are a plus

Summer Weekend Activities Lead

Available Shifts: Saturdays & Sundays, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Hourly Rate: $20.00

Position Summary: Are you a high-energy, organized individual who loves making things happen? We are seeking a Weekend Activities Lead to spearhead community outings and on campus activities for a vibrant group of blind or visually impaired students.

In this role, you aren’t just a chaperone; you are the “boots-on-the-ground” lead who turns a pre-planned itinerary into a seamless, memorable experience. From community outings such as shopping trips to attending local events and facilitating on campus activities, you will ensure our students navigate the world safely, socially, and successfully.

Additional Requirements: Driver’s License required, a clean driving record, and the comfort level to operate passenger vans or large SUVs.

Summer Activities of Daily Living/Personal Management Instructor

Available Shifts: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., 4 days per week (30 hours/week)
Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $24.00/hour

Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and detail-oriented Activities of Daily Living (ADL)/ Personal Management Instructor to join our rehabilitation team. In this role, you will be instrumental in helping students gain the independence and self-confidence necessary for daily success. You will provide hands-on instruction in essential life skills while serving as a vital link between the students and the broader rehabilitation team.

The ideal candidate possesses a unique blend of practical teaching ability and observational insight, ensuring that every student receives the personalized support they need to thrive.

Summer Technology Instructor

Available Shifts: 3 days/week, 22.5 hours/week
Hourly Rate: $20.00 to $24.00

Position Summary: Are you passionate about the intersection of cutting-edge tech and life-changing accessibility? We’re looking for a dynamic Summer Technology Instructor to bridge the gap between mainstream digital tools and the blind and visually impaired community.

In this role, you aren’t just teaching software; you’re delivering independence. You will be the architect of opportunity, working directly with students and referral agencies to identify the perfect toolkit of assistive technologies and computer access products. Whether it’s preparing a student for their first day of college or empowering a professional to excel in a high-stakes career, you will be the catalyst for their success.

Additional Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • JAWS Screen Reader
  • NVDA screen reader
  • Windows Magnifier and ZoomText software
  • Optical character recognition (OCR) software, including Kurzweil 1000, OpenBook, and the JAWS/Fusion convenient OCR
  • VoiceOver, Zoom, and other accessibility features on the Mac
  • Mac OS, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Mail, Safari, and Preview on the Mac
  • Google apps, including Google Drive, Google Documents, Google Sheets, and Google Slides
  • Braille displays
  • Experience training students in the use of custom JAWS scripts. JAWS script writing experience is not required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of Windows-based PC and Apple Macintosh with related office/productivity suite.
  • 2-3 years’ experience as an Assistive Technology Instructor for the blind or 5+ years as a user who demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the software products.
  • Experience training students in the use of custom JAWS scripts is preferred.
  • Ability to self-teach or collaborate with co-workers when possible to learn new technology.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and identify support systems when necessary.

Summer Job Coach

Available Shifts: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday weekly, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., 10-15 hours/week
Hourly Rate: $20.00

Position Summary: Are you interested in helping students learn the skills necessary to apply for and be successful in a new or existing job? This is the role for you! The Summer Job Coach prepares and supports blind or visually impaired teens and young adults for future employment in community settings. Individuals in the vocational program at the Carroll Center for the Blind participate in community-based job placements to prepare for future employment. The role of the Summer Job Coach includes training with job tasks, coaching on specific work behaviors, employer mediation, helping to build positive relationships, identifying limitations and tools to help overcome them, travel training to the work site, as well as other supports customized to meet the demands of the situation.

Additional Requirements: Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and the comfort level to operate passenger vans or large SUVs is a plus.

Summer Resident Assistant

Available Shifts Include:

- Client Support Shifts, 7 Days a Week: 5 - 10 p.m.
- Day Shifts, 7 Days a Week: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Night Shifts, 7 Days a Week: 5 p.m. - 8 a.m.
- Dinner Shifts, 7 Days a Week: 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Hourly Rates: $18.50 for day shifts, $17.50 for overnight shifts

Position Summary: The Summer Resident Assistant (or “RA”) plays a key role in student development, oversees their daily needs and supports their daily routines, as well as ensures a safe, organized and nurturing environment throughout the student’s experience. Also, the RA tends to the direct care of the student’s medical needs and dispenses medication as needed, assists with coordination and implementation of residential room organization, engages in meal participation; problem-solves; reviews overnight RA’s shift reports and communicates any concerns to Program Director and relevant staff, and provides emotional support as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
