Practical Solutions for Living with Low Vision
When changes in vision begin to affect reading, using technology, completing daily tasks, working, or enjoying everyday activities, the right support can make a meaningful difference. At The Carroll Center for the Blind, our Low Vision Specialists are designed to help individuals maximize functional vision and build practical strategies for greater independence and confidence.

“I’ve learned a lot. Many of these devices I didn’t know even existed. They certainly will help me with my vision but just as importantly, they will help reduce this constant feeling of lonely isolation.”
Benefits of Low Vision Services at the Carroll Center
Working one-on-one with one of our experienced Certified Low Vision Therapists, individuals receive personalized recommendations, training, and support tailored to their goals, lifestyle, and visual needs.
Through comprehensive assessment and hands-on instruction, clients explore a wide range of solutions—including optical, non-optical, and electronic devices—as well as techniques that can make everyday tasks more accessible and comfortable. Services may include magnification tools, lighting and glare management, reading and writing adaptations, technology solutions, and environmental modifications to support success at home, school, work, and in the community.
Functional Vision Assessment
A Functional Vision Assessment helps identify how vision is being used in daily life and determines strategies, tools, and adaptations that may improve access and performance.
During the assessment, a Certified Low Vision Therapist evaluates functional vision and introduces individualized solutions that may include magnification devices, lighting adjustments, contrast enhancements, computer adaptations, and other assistive technologies. Recommendations are based on each person’s goals and the activities that matter most to them.
Low Vision Therapy And Training
Low Vision Therapy provides individualized instruction to help people use recommended devices, techniques, and technology effectively in everyday life.
Training focuses on practical application and may include using optical and electronic magnification, improving lighting and glare control, adapting reading and writing tasks, and increasing access to smartphones, tablets, computers, and other assistive technology. Services are designed to help individuals gain confidence, increase independence, and make the most of their remaining vision.
Most services are provided at The Carroll Center for the Blind, where clients have access to a broad range of low vision devices and technology solutions. Additional service options may be available based on individual needs.
