Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a crucial role at Carroll Center for the Blind. We welcome volunteers who would like to work directly with clients as well as those who prefer to help support our organization in other ways. If you are interested in any of the below opportunities, please complete our volunteer application form. Summer Volunteer

[Minimum of 1 Hour Weekly Shift]

Choose from lunch, dinner, or evening activity shifts during the week. Come meet our summer students (ranging in age between 7 and 21) and participate in the fun, life-changing experience.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Commit to at least 1 shift (1 hr minimum) a week for duration of summer program (July 1 – August 15)
  • Complete a background check.
  • Will need to complete all required volunteer onboarding paperwork, training, & sign off on Volunteer Manual.

After completing our Volunteer Application Form, we will reach out to you to discuss next steps.

Individual Volunteer

[Minimum of 1 Hour Weekly Shift]

Opportunities may range anywhere from helping with lunch or dinner service, supporting client clubs, administrative type projects and more!

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Commit to at least 1 shift (1 hr minimum) a week for 4 months of service.
  • Complete a background check.
  • Will need to complete all required volunteer onboarding paperwork, training, & sign off on Volunteer Manual.

After completing our Volunteer Application Form, we will reach out to you to discuss next steps. Based on your responses, which will include your interests and availability, we will discuss and pair you with the most suitable volunteer opportunity or project.

Corporate Group Opportunities

[1 Day Event]

Are you part of a corporate team with an interest and drive to make a difference? Come spend a day with us at The Carroll Center for the Blind!

After completing our application form, which will ask you about your availability, group size and interests, we will work with you to develop the perfect day for your team. You’re welcome to help us with any of our group volunteer opportunities or if you have a particular service day, we can discuss that too!

Opportunities to help us in our work may involve beautifying our campus, supporting events, assisting us with client activities, or sharing valuable professional knowledge with our clients and staff! We’ll also ensure your team knows their efforts are helping us make students more confident and independent! Either way, we will have a fun and inspirational day planned for your team to give back!

Non-Corporate Group Opportunities

[1 Day Event]

Are you a member of a local non-corporate team interested in doing some service together? Whether you’re a church group, Eagle Scouts, or book group we’d love to have you!

We are looking for corporate or non-corporate groups to help with some of our annual events. Click here to view our group volunteer opportunities.

On-Call Events

[Weekday or Weekends]

On occasion, CCB hosts many fun events throughout the year and sometimes we are looking for some extra hands. By signing up for this opportunity, you will be on call when we are looking for volunteers to assist with upcoming events hosted at our campus.

Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.

Walk for Independence

[June 1, 2024]

Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind hosts the Walk for Independence, an event that raises funds and awareness for the Carroll Center. This event will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 8:30am to 12pm at Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst in Newton, MA. There are many ways to volunteer, including registration, route cheerleaders, food station, kids activities, setup/breakdown, sighted guide, water station and more! 

SailBlind Onshore Volunteers

[Saturdays, May-September]

Are you interested in spending a few Saturday mornings volunteering with the SailBlind team in Boston? Then join us as an onshore volunteer!

  • Sailing experience is not required.
  • You may commit to as few or as many Saturdays as you’d like.
  • Sign up to attend 5 sessions and receive a 30-day season Community Boating membership.
  • Parking reimbursement for all visits.
  • If room permits for any given Saturday, ride along in a sailboat!

Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
