The Job Market Preparation (JMP): On the Job program is an immersive 8–12 week internship designed for individuals who are ready to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional workplace. Ideal for those returning to work or exploring a new career path after a change in vision, this program bridges the gap between training and competitive employment by providing real-world experience in a supportive environment.

Participants are placed in professional work settings aligned with their interests and goals, where they can strengthen workplace skills, build confidence, and enhance their resumes with relevant experience. Through a collaborative approach that includes individualized support, employer partnership, and workplace accessibility planning, our team ensures you have the tools and strategies needed to perform successfully. Program Details

  • Length: 8–12 weeks
  • Work Hours: Up to 25 hours per week, providing meaningful experience while maintaining flexibility in your schedule
  • Support: Ongoing guidance from a dedicated job coach who will help you navigate workplace expectations, address accessibility needs, and further develop your career goals

What You’ll Gain

This program focuses on practical, transferable skills that employers value. By the end of your internship, you will have experience with:

  • Adaptive Work Strategies: Applying your existing skills, assistive devices, and/or technology effectively in a real-world work environment.
  • Workplace Communication: Communicating effectively with supervisors and coworkers, including discussing accommodations when needed.
  • Professional Skills: Managing daily responsibilities, using common workplace software, and collaborating as part of a team.
  • Job Search Readiness: Updating your résumé with recent experience and practicing how to describe your skills and strengths to employers
  • Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Support: Ensuring safe and confident travel to, from, and within your internship site.
