Learning to live with vision loss requires an adjustment to the loss and a knowledge of the devices that could help you use your remaining vision. Our Certified Low Vision Therapists can help you find devices and learn techniques that will enable you to use any remaining vision. Explore the wide range of high quality optical and non-optical devices that can improve visual performance. Proper eyeglasses, magnifying devices, reading stands, the proper use of lighting and repositioning of work material can reduce strain and fatigue. The following Assessments are available:
VISION ASSESSMENT
When glasses no longer help, other magnification devices, lighting and techniques might. An assessment by our Low Vision Therapist will help you learn about equipment and resources so that you can use your remaining vision to its greatest potential. Understanding the extent of the visual impairment, using magnification and controlling lighting can frequently improve doing visual tasks. Hand-held, portable and desktop magnifiers and computer adaptations will also be explored. This assessment takes approximately one hour and an application and appointment are required; eye reports are helpful. There is a fee of $95, however scholarships may be available.
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT
School-age children with vision impairment can greatly benefit from low vision devices, assistive technology and techniques to access school materials, the blackboard and computers. However, finding the best solutions requires an assessment with a trained professional and access to a wide variety of equipment. During this 1.5 hour assessment a variety of high & low technology solutions for accessing a computer, printed material and viewing a blackboard or other classroom materials are considered for each student and the demands of the school or home environment. Solutions considered may include low vision magnifiers or software, speech output, digital audio recorders, scanners, Braille printers, talking books, PDA’s and related technology.

- WORK-SITE TASKS, TOOLS AND MODIFICATIONS
- EXPLORING VISION ENHANCEMENT DEVICES
- VIDEO MAGNIFICATION READING SYSTEMS
- COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
