Original Opera: “En La Ardiente Oscuridad”

En la ardiente oscuridad is a new, Spanish-language chamber opera with music by Omar Najmi and a libretto adapted from the 1947 play by Antonio Buero Vallejo. This thrilling original opera follows the conflict between Carlos and Ignacio, two students in a school for the blind. The cast, featuring a mix of sighted, blind, and visually impaired singers, will be led by baritone John Castillo.

Performances will take place on Friday, September 6, at 7:30 P.M. as well as on Sunday, Septermber 8, at 2:00 P.M., at the Mosesian Center for the Arts Black Box theater at 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown.

The performance will be followed by a talkback/panel discussion in which a discussion about tackling issues, including; the representation of the blind community in the performing arts and accessibility of the arts to audience members of all abilities.
