Bay State Council of the Blind Story Slam
The Bay State Council of the Blind (BSCB) presents: Story Slam.
On Friday, June 21 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., join BSCB for a Story Slam hosted here at the Carroll Center for Blind on 770 Centre Street in Newton, MA.
How does it work? A story slam is an opportunity for you to tell a favorite story to a crowd. It’s like karaoke (that is “kareeoki” for JAWS users) without the music. Your story must be true and from your own experience. In the best story telling tradition, modest exaggeration is of course permitted. The theme of the evening will be “Stranger than Fiction.”Ground Rules:
When you register at the front desk, let the organizers know you are interested in telling a story. They will give you a card with a number. Numbers will be randomly chosen during the evening.
You will be given a maximum of 10 minutes to tell your story, but you can certainly use less time.
We will finish with stories at about 8:45 PM to allow time for judging. Depending on the number of story tellers, we may not get to all the stories.
Three judges appointed by the Social Committee will choose the two best story tellers who will each receive a $25 Amazon gift card.
All attendees must pay their $10 entry fee at the door. However, it is important than you pre-register so we can get an accurate headcount for pizza, drinks, and seating.
So put on your thinking caps, work on your best stories, and we hope to see you on June 21.
You can preregister in two ways. First, you can email the organizer, David Kingsbury, at davidkingsbury77@gmail.com. Or you can leave a voice message on the BSCB telephone mailbox by calling (773) 572-6312 and hitting the pound key.
