TECHNOLOGY SKILLS INSTRUCTOR/EVALUATOR

Position Summary

[Rehabilitation Services, 37.5 Hours]

We seek a Personal Management Instructor to provide assessment and instruction in a wide range of areas to support the development of adaptive household and personal care skills to include laundry, ironing, grooming, cooking, cleaning, knife skills, food shopping, paying bills, Instructor to work with students who range in age from 14 to 90 and teach a wide variety of nonvisual skills related to accessible means for personal computer use, smartphone use, notetaking techniques, Braille, paper/digital record keeping skills, keep daily notes on each client, stay current on approaches for accessing print and perform other related duties. The Personal Management Instructor will evaluate students’ progress, make recommendations, present at department meetings and perform other tasks as assigned.

About Us

The Carroll Center for the Blind empowers those who are blind and visually impaired to achieve independence and lead a fulfilling life. The Carroll Center serves all ages and stages of vision loss by providing campus-based rehabilitation, technology instruction, community orientation and mobility as well as itinerant education and mobility services to children. Our Rehabilitation team is a comprehensive center-based training program. The Department uses a team-based approach, where all Instructors collaborate closely across training disciplines and work together to best support client skill development and emotional adjustment to vision loss.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in a human service-related field.
  • Three years’ experience as a CVRT or M.Ed in Vision Rehabilitation including experience working with individuals with disabilities strongly prefer.
  • Familiarity with Safe, adapted, non-visual cooking and cleaning techniques; working knowledge of Braille and access technology skills to teach lesson content, blindness and adjustment, and modifying/adapting materials.
  • Must be energetic, creative, and enthusiastic.
  • Possess excellent oral/written skills, be a team player and demonstrate creative problem-solving as needed.
