About Us
Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, students’ homes, and their communities.

This person will help us reach new and existing audiences by developing strong messaging and communication channels that connect individuals and businesses with our programs and services.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Development and Communication Officer (CDCO), the Marketing and Communications Manager (MCM) is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy for The Carroll Center for the Blind (CCB). The MCM will assist CCB departments to meet program outreach goals, heighten agency visibility and promote important blind-positive stories. Additionally, the MCM will oversee CCB’s website, social media, and email marketing and design marketing collateral for fundraising events and campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan.
- Assist in the development of a communications plan for the public launch of CCB’s $13 million comprehensive campaign.
- Execute marketing initiatives set forth in the strategic plan to ensure benchmark goals are met each fiscal year.
- Design marketing collateral for fundraising events and CCB programs and services.
- Manage all CCB communications channels, including the website, two monthly e-newsletters, and social media.
- Compose compelling writing about how CCB programs help our clients and the community. Serves as an editor and coach for all content creators to ensure CCB’s message is distributed in a consistent manner.
- Oversee media relations, including drafting pitches, editorial content and press releases at the local, regional and national level to promote and enhance CCB’s reputation. Acts as the key liaison with media contacts to ensure appropriate CCB messaging.
- Collaborate with the Webmaster on website behavior using analytics/AdWords to increase traffic, especially for store web orders.
- Collaborate with internal and external photographers to identify and compile photos for media use; guide reporters and photographers on campus and at offsite events to achieve media/PR goals.
- Manage marketing interns; develop thoughtful internship experiences, delegate weekly assignments, mentor for professional growth, and oversee capstone projects.
- Represent the Carroll Center at community events and meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications with 5 years’ experience in marketing and communications required.
- Working knowledge and experience of SEO/SEM, social media channels and other digital marketing tactics is a must. Familiarity with Google Analytics and other tracking systems is preferred.
- Experience with making website updates via WordPress required.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Photoshop essential.
- Experience with camera and video equipment.
- Ability to work with media and PR groups.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations to large and small groups is essential.
- Excellent oral/written, interpersonal, attention to detail and organizational skills required.
- Exhibits and promotes high standards of ethical conduct practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and autonomously, be cognizant of deadlines, thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Working a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, late evenings and some weekends required.
- Valid driver’s license and occasional local travel required.
