CUSTODIAN/MAINTENANCE WORKER

10:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. daily shift

The Carroll Center for the Blind seeks a responsible Custodian/Maintenance Worker to perform general daily housekeeping and custodial activities in the campus buildings and on the property to maintain a clean and safe work environment. The Custodian/Maintenance Worker will also provide maintenance and grounds support and complete tasks as assigned. Reporting to the Facilities, Safety and Security Administrator, the Custodian/Maintenance Worker will provide skilled work in maintenance, construction, alteration and repair of the building, equipment and provide assistance to skilled maintenance staff. This position may be required to respond to any emergency on a 24- hour basis.

Each year, The Carroll Center for the Blind helps more than 4,000 blind or visually impaired children, adults, and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. The Carroll Center serves all ages and stages of vision loss by providing campus-based rehabilitation, technology instruction, community orientation and mobility as well as itinerant education and mobility services to children.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, prior cleaning experience a plus.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and work autonomously.
  • Possess good verbal and written, organization and attention to detail skills as well as basic computer knowledge preferred (email, internet, word documents).
  • Maintains a professional appearance and interacts positively with clients and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds required and push housekeeping cart with supplies.
  • Successful background check and reference required.
