At a public hearing held in Newton by the MBTA to invite feedback on their proposed service cuts and fare increases, the Carroll Center was well represented and our message was widely covered by the media. Of special concern is the proposed elimination of the 52 bus that runs along Centre Street, servicing the Carroll Center and widely used by clients, staff and visitors.
The MBTA must reduce its $161 million budget deficit and is proposing a combination of fare increases and service reductions, but as Carroll Center’s Brian Charlson described, these proposals require that persons with disabilities take on a an unequal share of the burden both in fare increases and service reductions.
CCB staff member Jennifer Harnish and alumnus Nancy Jodoin also distinguished themselves with notable presentations that were covered in the media.
